Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public's help in identifying a driver who rammed police vehicles during a chase on Tuesday evening. The incident began when officers approached a pick-up truck with a driver slumped over the wheel. The driver fled the scene, damaging two police vehicles in the process.

After a driver in a pick-up truck smashed into police vehicles and sped away from officers, Nanaimo RCMP is seeking dashcam footage to help identify the man. Anyone who has information on the driver of a white Ford pick-up truck involved in a police chase in Nanaimo on Tuesday, January 28, is asked to call the police. At around 7 p.m.

on Tuesday, January 28, Nanaimo RCMP identified a driver slumped over in a white Ford pick-up truck in the parking lot of the Southgate Shopping Centre on 12th Street. Officers first spotted the truck idling in the parking lot with the driver who appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. The officers tried to determine if the man had been drinking or was in medical distress but the truck started moving before they had a chance to know. While attempting to leave the parking lot, the pick-up pushed one police vehicle out of its path and struck a second police vehicle, causing significant damage to both. During the chase, Nanaimo RCMP says the driver of the pick-up truck rammed several police vehicles. At one point, the vehicle drove onto the pedestrian walkway in front of a local grocery store, knocking over several displays of potted plants. Due to the speed of the vehicle and driving evidence displayed, the officers did not follow the vehicle, which was last seen driving southbound on the Trans-Canada Highway. As a result of the driver, one of the police vehicles struck was not driveable and had to be towed. The driver has been described as a bald man wearing a blue jacket. Anyone who was in the parking lot or near the area between 6:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28 is asked to review their dash cam video and contact police with any information
