Mounties are investigating after a 65-year-old man was taken to hospital following a hit-and-run in Nanaimo.
Police say they were called to the waterfront intersection of Departure Bay Road and Wingrove Street around 6 p.m. on Jan. 22 for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a car.
Witnesses told police that the victim was walking in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle heading south on Departure Bay Road.Emergency crews responded, including police, firefighters and paramedics, and the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to hospital.
Mounties believe the suspect vehicle is a newer model dark-coloured SUV, that will now have damage to its front right corner, based on debris collected at the scene and from CCTV video captured at nearby residences. Police say the intersection was closed for several hours Wednesday night following the crash, while investigators reviewed the scene.
