Travellers heading towards Nanaimo on Jan. 1 should be prepared for possible slowdowns on the Nanaimo Parkway following a morning crash.

The crash occurred around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of the Nanaimo Parkway and Fifth Street, according to the Nanaimo Fire Rescue

One fire engine was dispatched to the scene, and Nanaimo RCMP vehicles could be seen near the crash site around 9:45 a.m. The right-hand lane of the northbound side of the highway was closed to traffic, with cars being redirected onto the left lane while police reviewed the scene Wednesday morning.A CHEK News reporter at the scene saw a debris field from the crash stretching about 30 metres around the vehicle.
