Amusement came in an unexpected way. Walking the streets of Halifax, I found the 47-year-old book to be surprisingly accurate. “When completed, it will destroy the very delicate scale of the lower end of Spring Garden Road and the quiet environment of the cemetery and adjacent churches.” I headed back down to the harbour to take the ferry home to Dartmouth. According to the guidebook, when boarding the ferry, I could choose the smoking or non-smoking side. It’s all smoke-free now, as are most of the passengers.Work is being done to preserve Granville Streets historic character. - Katy Jean
