“This is a safe place to go if we accidentally take too much, we have staff here that will monitor us,” said OPS client Alysha Dickinson.But, according to witnesses, on Sept. 12, the Albert Street site was the scene of a large drug bust by RCMP. “They had hundreds of opiate pills. That initial arrest led to the arrest of a man and a woman. They had prohibited weapons, they had cash, they had methamphetamine, they had a large amount of fentanyl.”
However, CHEK News could not independently confirm Koshman’s employment because the Canadian Mental Health Association’s mid-Island Branch, which runs the OPS, did not return a request for comment.“People that are requiring services need to feel safe as well,” said Karen Kuwica of Nanaimo’s Newcastle Community Association.
