The Nanaimo RCMP says its Serious Crime Unit has launched a suspicious death investigation after a man’s body was found along the edge of Bowen Park earlier this week.
Mounties say the body was discovered by a passerby in a wooded area at approximately noon on Thursday, near the Nanaimo Curling Rink and railway tracks.
Investigators could be seen interviewing people at the park, as well as two paramedics that afternoon“A police officer just came and knocked on the door and asked us if we’d seen anything unusual,” said Kat Cuell. “I’d like to say that it’s a surprise and we’re shocked but not really. There are cop cars over there all the time. I mean not to this extent but it’s pretty constant in and out of police cars over there,” said Cuell.
“I’m honestly surprised it doesn’t happen more often sometimes with the people you see around in the area and just the things going on. It’s sad to hear but I’m not totally shocked either,” said Stewart Dueck, who owns Dueck Manufacturing.
