A team of three Crown attorneys has been assembled to prosecute four teenagers charged with second-degree murder in the April 22 killing of a 16-year-old Halifax boy.Two 14-year-olds from Lower Sackville — a boy and a girl — were arrested April 24. Two 16-year-old boys — one from Halifax, the other from Dartmouth — were picked up by police April 29 and May 1, respectively.None of the teens was ready to seek bail Monday, when the case returned to Halifax youth court.

The 14-year-old girl appeared in court in person. At the request of lawyer Brandon Rolle, her bail hearing was scheduled for June 21.The other accused appeared via video links from jail. His lawyer, Anna Mancini, said he was electing to be tried in youth court and would like to set trial dates as quickly as possible.

If that happens, a jury election by even one of the accused would mean they would all stand trial in Supreme Court rather than youth court. “But of course it’s one of those things, with four lawyers and four co-accused, that can grow by volume.”“This is a very new file. The matters just arose. And the defence lawyers need time to make some decisions with their clients.”
