The Ottawa Senators will be welcomed back with open arms Saturday. Thousands of them.
The 2019-20 season was put on hold before the Oilers made it here, then the 56-game 2020-21 season all-Canadian division was played in empty rinks and last season the Senators were subject to capacity limits of 500 fans when the Oilers came to town on Jan. 31st.
“This is pretty special game but, at the same time, the excitement we’re having is at the beginning of the season we were forecasting 10 sellouts,” Anthony LeBlanc, the club’s president of business operations, told this newspaper Thursday morning. “We’re going to well exceed that number. We think we’re going to be between 13-to-15 games sold out. It’s great all around.”
“There’s no question that this team is trending in the right direction,” LeBlanc said. “Yes, we’ve had some ups and downs this season, but to go into the all-star break was funny because what I was hearing from people was, ‘Dammit, I wish we didn’t have the break’ because the team was on a four-game winning streak.
“The moves Pierre made put a lot of wind in our sails. The team had to come out and play well but I don’t want to take credit away from the people who work on the business side. They’ve done a great job and we’re really grinding on the business side and doing our part to fill the building,” said LeBlanc.Article content
