Then, they will welcome the Reading Royals to the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s for the first of a three-game set to get things going.It will be the first chance for fans to get a look at a roster that has undergone a large shakeup from last year’s team that went to the ECHL Eastern Conference finals a year ago.

Just five players return from that team, highlighted by Todd Skirving, who is back for his fifth year with the team. The others are Jordan Escott, Adam Dawe, Jonny Tychonick and Dryden McKay. The veteran forward is one of 21 players who will meet the Royals in what will be the head coaching debut of Growlers’ bench boss Matt Cooke and development coach Adam Pardy.

Of those 21, there are 13 forwards, six defencemen and two goaltenders. There are also 15 rookies on this year’s squad.St. John’s native Jordan Escott is back with the Newfoundland Growlers for a second season after signing with the club late last week. Last season, Escott appeared in 16 games with the Growlers and posted four points .
