The SIU is investigating an incident where Toronto police officers discharged a sock round, less-lethal firearm, and conducted energy weapons at a man who allegedly stabbed another person.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit ( SIU ) is investigating an incident where Toronto police officers discharged a sock round, less-lethal firearm, and conducted energy weapons at a man who allegedly stabbed another person in the city’s Rockcliffe-Smythe area on Saturday morning. Police received a report of a 56-year-old man stabbing someone with a knife and threatening others with a staple gun. After a sock round struck the man, other officers deployed conducted energy weapons.

He barricaded himself in his apartment. One officer fired a gun, but the man was not hit. Later, officers entered the unit and discharged a less-lethal firearm and conducted energy weapons at the man. He was arrested and taken to the hospital for serious injuries. The SIU, which investigates cases involving police shootings, serious injuries, sexual assault allegations, or weapon discharges, has assigned three investigators and two forensic investigators to the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SIU
