The man was injured while officers were executing a search warrant on Wednesday

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is being investigated by Ontario's police watchdog after a man sustained serious injuries during the execution of a search warrant on Wednesday.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, officers attended a residence on Albert Street at approximately 6 a.m. on Dec. 11 to execute a search warrant on a 46-year-old man under investigation. “There was an interaction between officers and the man, and the man was subsequently arrested,” a spokesperson for the SIU said in an email to SooToday Thursday.Three investigators have since been assigned to the case.

As previously reported by SooToday, the SIU is also investigating the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service after a woman was taken to hospital with a serious injury on Oct. 13. The SIU is an independent government agency that conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians resulting in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
