Canada's telecom watchdog has reported a significant increase in consumer complaints about TV, internet, and phone services in 2024, raising concerns about customer satisfaction and the practices of major providers.
Canada 's telecom industry watchdog reported a record number of consumer complaints in 2024 concerning television, internet, and phone services. The Commission for Complaints for Telecom and Television Services (CCTS) received over 20,000 complaints, a 38% surge from 2023. Complaints against Rogers saw an 8% increase, while Telus experienced a 53% rise, and Bell faced a 46% jump in customer grievances.
\Geoff White, with the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, pointed out that large service providers are primarily responsible for the majority of complaints. He stated that 10 service providers or brands account for 80 to 90% of complaints, a consistent trend over time. This, according to White, signifies widespread customer dissatisfaction. \Howard Maker, representing the Complaints Commission, advises consumers to meticulously review their bills, even if they remain unchanged monthly. On the other hand, the Canadian Telecommunications Association, which advocates for the industry, asserts that less than one-tenth of one percent of customers filed service complaints last year.
