About 60 of the photos are part of a new exhibit that opened Aug. 26 at the O’Dell House Museum Archive and Research Centre in Annapolis Royal. The exhibit, which will continue through September, includes a photo of an elephant walking through downtown Annapolis Royal during a visit by the circus, horse races in Bridgetown and birchbark canoes at Bear River.
“I love seeing the public getting so much out of it. They all go away smiling and that’s all the proof you need to know this is a worthwhile exercise.” “When we started talking about the idea behind this , I knew one of things I wanted to show was that Victorians and people from 100 years ago weren’t necessarily just staring into the camera with no expression on their face because often they had to.”

This was taken in the 1890s and it’s just so crisp and beautiful,” Tolson said. “This is the beauty of using photography from 120 years ago and combining that with new technology and you can bring these stories back to life again.”Barteaux said the society wants residents to know the possibilities that exist for images in their own homes.
