Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives and Liberals have both promised to take over costs related to Ottawa’s troubled LRT system if they win power in the continuing, the PC Leader, made his commitment at a news conference in Ottawa on Tuesday, while Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie promised her support in a statement that also committed to other transportation measures.

Mr. Ford, seeking another term in government for the PCs, said his party’s plan would free up $4-billion over 30 years for the city to invest in other priorities. Ottawa’s Confederation Line LRT system has faced various technical issues. It has been the subject of a public inquiry that raised concerns about leadership and management of the 12.5-kilometre line, which opened in 2019. A second phase of the system opened last month.
