Environment Canada warns of heavy snowfall in southern Ontario and extreme cold in the north, issuing various winter weather warnings.
Environment Canada has issued a slew of winter weather warnings for Ontario , predicting heavy snowfall for much of southern Ontario and extreme cold in the north. The agency has issued winter storm warnings for areas such as Owen Sound, Barrie, and Cornwall, where 20 to 30 centimeters of snow are anticipated today. The Ottawa region and Haliburton County are bracing for the heaviest snowfall, with up to 40 centimeters expected by Thursday afternoon.
Snowfall warnings have also been issued for the Greater Toronto Area, London, and Sarnia, with accumulations of up to 25 centimeters predicted throughout tonight and into Thursday morning. The agency cautions that rapidly accumulating snow will significantly hinder travel and potentially disrupt traffic in urban centers. Meanwhile, parts of northern Ontario, including Dryden, Vermilion Bay, and Kenora, are facing extreme cold temperatures. Wind chill values in these areas are projected to plunge near -40 degrees Celsius, posing a serious risk to public safety. Environment Canada urges residents in all affected regions to exercise extreme caution and prepare accordingly for the challenging winter conditions
