The Holy Cross Crusaders are national champions after they beat Ontario 3-0 in the final of the Toyota National Jubilee Trophy Championships on Sunday afternoon. The Holy Cross Kirby Group women’s team was named the senior team of the year after putting in a season that saw them win their seventh straight provincial Jubilee Trophy title after going undefeated during the season. Provincially, the heralded athlete was named to the provincial all-star team for the work she did helping the Crusaders to an undefeated record. Pope was also named the regular season and playoff MVP.On the Holy Cross men’s side, Jake Warren was named the province’s senior male player of the year.
The other award winners come mostly from the youth ranks, along with volunteer, executive and officials of the year awards. On the male side, Jack Tupin, with the Paradise under-17 and Challenge Cup teams, was named the youth male player of the year. He played on four teams last summer and was also a member of two provincial teams, including the Canada Games team. He won gold with the NLSA’s under-16 entry at the Atlantic championships.
Craig Dyer fills many roles with Mount Pearl Soccer Association, including club executive, and is a director with the NLSA. For the commitment he makes to the sport in his home associaiton and the province, Dyer was named the volunteer of the year
