It isn’t often that a team of athletes gets to represent their province at a pair of national events in the same calendar year, let alone do it twice in a ...

Simon Perry and his rink will be the province’s men’s representatives at the 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships being held in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec Mar. 25-April 2. Perry’s team defeated defending champion Nathan Young and his rink in the final. Perry’s team consists of lead Evan Scott, second William Butler and third Nicholas Codner. They are coached by Greg Blyde.

That’s when Perry, who counts lead Evan Scott, second William Butler and third Nicholas Codner as teammates, defeated defending under-21 provincial champ Nathan Young and his rink 9-1 in the final. Perry’s rink is coached by Greg Blyde. A repeat provincial title wasn’t in the cards for Young, but a return trip to the Canadian junior championships is. His rink will serve as Newfoundland and Labrador’s second entry on the male side at the tournament.

On one side was defending champion Mackenzie Mitchell and her rink. They were opposed by newly crowned provincial under-18 champion Cailey Locke and her team in what was a best-of-5 championship series. Locke’s team met Kate Stokes and her rink in the final of the provincial under-18 women’s championship held in St. John’s earlier this month.
