New Details Emerge In Chinese Billionaire, JD.com Founder Richard Liu's Rape Case

The alleged victim told investigators she was afraid JD.com founder Richard Liu would harm her family in China.

In text messages sent while Liu was sleeping after the alleged assault, the woman—who was 21 at the time—said she was “forced” to sleep with Liu in a text to her boyfriend in China.

Chad Kristian Florin, a lawyer representing the woman, did not immediately respond to a request for comment fromBrisbois, a lawyer with Minneapolis-based law firm Caplan & Tamburino, said in a statement the “evidence released today again reaffirms our strong belief from the very beginning that Mr. Liu is innocent.”

The alleged rape occurred after a dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Minneapolis, where the victim said Liu plied her with wine. Liu was in the city for a weeklong residency at the University of Minnesota’s business school, according to the. The victim, an undergraduate at the time, was working at the business school’s front desk.

Once inside, the victim said that he raped her while she tried to push him away and yelled “don’t!” After he fell asleep, she texted three friends, one of whom called the police over her objections.
