The 27-year-old from Charlottetown primarily plays left field but provides versatility where he can play just about any position, if needed.
“Coming up through minor baseball , I was always an infielder or third baseman,” Arsenault told SaltWire in a phone interview on June 2. “With the talent we have with our infield, it’s tough to make the lineup with those guys in it. But having the flexibility to play the outfield and get yourself in the lineup is respected by the coaches and players as well.
“You feel a little more comfortable where you are taking the most reps,” said Arsenault. “It’s nice to switch into the other positions and kind of have the feel for it, but left field is the most comfortable for me.”Offensively, Arsenault played a big role last season. In 28 games, Arsenault batted .362, scored 14 runs and hit four doubles while contributing 13 innings on the mound.
“Jonny can play the infield, outfield, pitch, hits with a little bit of power, hits for average and is a great person to have on the field,” said MacLean.The opportunity to play a high level of baseball in his hometown is not lost on Arsenault, who is employed as the branch manager for Provincial Credit Union in Stratford.
