Merafe's ferrochrome production down 9% in HY 2023 Merafe
- Ferrochrome producer Merafe Resources reported today that its attributable HY 2023 production from the Glencore Merafe Chrome Venture decreased by 9% y-o-y to 185 kt compared to HY 2022 .
Merafe said that the reduction in production is due to planned pullback, adding that only the Lion smelter is scheduled to operate over the 3 month high electricity demand winter season, a period of elevated power prices. The company has a 20.5% interest in the Merafe Ferrochrome and Mining Proprietary Limited. Global mining and metals group Glencore owns the remaining 79.5%.
