Mounties in Nanaimo say a 50-year-old man was transported to hospital following a report of a stabbing at Maffeo Sutton Park on Tuesday morning.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, officers are investigating the alleged assault that happened in a washroom at the park, which is located at 100 Comox Rd. in the downtown area. RCMP says the victim was “ assulted with a weapon in the washroom at the park,” adding, “The assailant fled, but the male provided a detailed statement to police before he was transported to Nanaimo Regional Hospital.”

The investigation is ongoing, “and the public will be updated as more information becomes available,” says RCMP in a news release issued around noon Tuesday.In September 2022, Fred Parsons, a 29-year-old man with developmental disabilities, was stabbed to death at Maffeo Sutton Park while hanging out with friends. This past July, a key witness took the stand in a trial for two men accused of manslaughter.
