I was surprised when I turned on the radio recently and heard about our tax dollars being used for an advertisement blaming the Houston government for Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s equalization issues.
The performance of the mayor and councillors in a four-year term also raises questions. It's important to be transparent and show voters what's being done, rather than just offering lip service without results. Over the years, various councils, regardless of political affiliation, have failed to address the equalization issue. It's been a longstanding concern championed by figures like Father Albert Maroun and Nova Scotians for Equalization Fairness while CBRM remained inactive. It's not surprising, given this history.
