Owen King recorded his 12th multi-marker performance of the season, netting three times to lead the Blind River Beavers to a 6-2 victory over the Soo Thunderbirds in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup at the Blind River Community Centre. King opened the scoring with a power-play goal early in the first period, sending a shot past Thunderbirds' goaltender Lincoln Mellenthin. Sault Ste.
Marie's James Legler tied the game late in the first period with a pass to Bryan Fenlon, who roofed the puck past Beavers' netminder Connor Dunham-Fox. However, King regained the lead for the Beavers with a similar goal to his first, taking a feed from Owen van de Ven and firing it past Mellenthin. The Beavers extended their lead in the second period with two more goals. Jonah McIndoo scored off a turnover, and Kalyn McQueen tipped in an Isaiah Allen shot. The Soo cut the lead to 5-2 early in the third period on a power-play goal by Jacob Smith. With Mellenthin pulled for an extra attacker, King capped off the scoring with his third goal of the game, an empty-netter assisted by Rylan Gibbs.King's hat trick propelled him to the top of the NOJHL with five three-goal performances this season. He also leads the league with 11 game-winning goals.
