The most effective forward for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Yordy Reyna, is out for up to a month with an injury, leaving the door open for his higher-paid backups to come in and make an overdue impact
The Vancouver Whitecaps were, at times, dogged with the reputation of having a “country club” mentality last season.“We don’t have the luxury of having … ‘luxury players.’ We have to be a club that our work ethic from everyone is very high,” the Caps coach said Tuesday after practice.Dos Santos is honest — occasionally to the point of brutally — and public about his feelings.
As blunt as he can be, Dos Santos is equally forthright with his praise. He’s singled out Yordy Reyna for his work rate recently, as the speedy Peruvian forward — who’s made four straight starts — has made the team more aggressive and efficient in its press. In the preseason, Dos Santos outlined his plan for a more pugnacious and high-pressing style, and so far, Reyna has been the only one capable of delivering the type of presence he wants. And now that spark will be removed from the lineup for up to a month, as he recovers from a leg injury suffered against the Union.
Ardaiz has come close to scoring several times, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, and definitely not player ratings, where the big Uruguayan striker is the second-lowest rated player on the team.
