This is the third instance of a vehicle losing its tire this month. This time, an impaired driver hit a curb before losing their wheel.

There has been yet another vehicle incident this month involving a motorist losing a tire while while driving in the Greater Victoria Area.

On Wednesday, police say an impaired driver who was driving erratically slammed into a curb near Cook and Quadra Street around 8:15 p.m. The driver of the vehicle continued motoring until Douglas Street and Saanich Road, where the van came to a stop when its tire fell off and subsequently burst into flames.

Authorities arrived on scene, and the driver was initially taken to hospital before being put into Saanich Police custody, where they were given a Drug Recognition Evaluation test. Police say the driver is facing criminal charges for refusing to comply with a demand, while also receiving a 90-day driving prohibition.“Over the past week we have investigated several impaired drivers, the circumstances of which were all preventable,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.
