All three encounters — including two drivers who fled from police — took place within a four-day period.
Another fled a roadside stop for fear his truck would be impounded — and promptly crashed it into a tree. All three encounters with Saanich police took place in a four-day period.
A Saanich police officer responding to the incident gave chase after ensuring that the highway patrol officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. Officers followed the driver to a park on a dead-end street but were unable to locate the man.“Likely as a result of his impairment, the driver may have forgotten that he had given his driver’s licence to the initial officer, which contained important personal information such as his home address,” a Saanich police statement said.
Then on Saturday, officers stopped a pickup in the 900-block of Nicholson Street near Christmas Hill around 10 p.m. to determine the sobriety of the driver. The female driver failed a roadside breath test. While explaining the process of an impaired driving investigation, the officer noted the man was becoming “increasingly upset” that his truck would be impounded for 30 days, police said.
