“The fifth set was so exciting,” said Ceciley Able. “Coming from a small, close-knit school, we had the bleachers and the gym walls full of fans from little kids to grandparents all cheering, holding up posters bringing so much energy.”
The Immanuel Christian School Eagles recently won the P.E.I. School Athletic Association Senior A Girls Volleyball League championship. It marked Immanuel Christian’s first-ever PEISAA provincial championship. The Eagles edged the Morell Marlins 3-2 in the gold-medal match. The Eagles responded by going up 18-6 on their way to a 25-12 win in Set 2.
“Morel is a good team and we have gone head-to-head with them a few times this fall. Our last huddle before going on our coach said a quick prayer for our nerves, then encouraged us: ‘Girls, you got this. You are amazing talented athletes, go out there play your best, play together and have so much fun. I believe in you.’”“It was an incredible moment not just for our team but for our school as well,” said Mowat.
“I had never felt that way before; the overwhelming feeling of victory,” said Mowat. “We worked so hard over the past three years to get here.”Effie Able coached the Eagles for the past four years in both fall and spring volleyball. Effie added seeing the players and team achieve and exceed personal and team goals for the 2022 season is very rewarding.
