Raids by officers becoming a familiar scene at west end of Lazelle Avenue
In what is becoming a familiar scene in downtown Terrace, heavily armed police officers in multiple vehicles descended upon the laneway behind the St. Matthew’s Anglican Church this morning.
This is at least the fourth time in less than two years officers have arrested, handcuffed and taken away individuals from several houses along the laneway which is actually an unpaved portion of Lazelle Ave. Officers from an Emergency Response Team used flashbangs and other devices while forcing the front door open of the house at the western end of the laneway.
At least eight marked and unmarked police vehicles were at the scene, including an armoured vehicle favoured by the Emergency Response Team. While they assembled in the laneway and around the house, uniformed officers cordoned off the block of Lakelse Ave. containing the church and Totem Furniture, preventing the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
