The penalties came almost as frequently as shots on goal in a scrappy Game 2 affair
Excuse Vancouver Giants fans if they were worried that their team checked themselves into submission.
The Giants won the Western Conference regular season and gave up the third fewest goals in the 22-team WHL en route to that. The Royals , who finished 29 points behind Vancouver, finished 16th in goals for. Ralph Jarratt tied the score on a Victoria power play at 10:12 of the third with a point shot that hit three Giants before eluding Tendeck.
Vancouver outshot their rivals on 48 occasions. They were 36-9-1-2 in those games. They were 11-6-2-0 when their opponent led in shots. Kustra was already tied up with Vancouver defenceman Byram, and Dmytriw came in to intervene. Byram had words with the Victoria bench minutes earlier after his blue-line partner Kannok Leipert had to be helped to the bench following what looked like a high check by Victoria forward Carson Miller. No penalty was called on the play.
In the warm-up, the winger was with Vancouver’s fourth line, skating with Evan Patrician and Yannik Valenti. Come game time, he was quickly back with Koch, his centre for this season. Koch had Nielsen, Justin Sourdif and Svejkovsky rotating on his wings much of the night.
