Victoria rallied to beat Vancouver in seven games in last year’s first round
For their next round of the WHL playoffs, the Vancouver Giants get a chance to avenge their loss in last year’s postseason.
There are 13 Vancouver players back who hit the ice against the Royals last spring. There are 10 returning Royals, plus defenceman Scott Walford, a four-year veteran of the team who missed the postseason last year with injury. Vancouver had a 3-2 series lead last spring against the Royals, but lost Game 6 at home in overtime when Noah Gregor tallied at 7:06 of the extra session to give Victoria a 4-3 decision. The next night in Victoria, Matthew Phillips scored twice and Griffen Outhouse made 30 saves to steer Victoria to a 4-3 win in regulation.
The Giants were the top team in the Western Conference in the regular season, while Victoria was sixth, 29 points behind Vancouver.
