One of B.C.\u0027s largest housing providers is raising alarm about \u0022urgent need\u0022 for on\u002Dsite psychiatric care inside its dozens of facilities.
But when Postmedia News spoke last week with Seperich, 62, she said: “I’m actually feeling great.”
Seperich is one of thousands of British Columbians who have stabilized and improved their lives at one of Coast Mental Health’s more than 50 residential facilities in Metro Vancouver. But too many others haven’t been able to access those services and Seperich’s positive experience ofAdvertisementSome people might find it surprising to learn that, as one of B.C.
Coast staffers help residents build life skills to aid their recovery, help them live more independently, and, in some cases, gain employment, said Coast spokeswoman Susan Hancock. “But there’s also an urgent need for on-site medical professionals to assess patients and administer medicationsLater this week, Coast will launch a campaign lobbying the provincial government for what they say is badly needed “systemic change” in the provision of mental-health services in B.C.
“We provide community support and case management,” Burnham said, but for things like diagnosis of mental illness and prescriptions, “we’ve left that to the system — but the system is kind of overwhelmed, and there are big holes.”
