37-year-old pleads guilty to 12 charges, including four break-and-enters, assault and robbery while masked; sentence will be handed down in October
When a masked and armed Justin Whalen broke into an elderly couple's Sault Ste. Marie home, he left behind a calling card: a sample of his blood.
Ontario Court Justice John Condon heard the accused broke into the couple's Cunningham Road home through a basement window shortly before 8 a.m. Whalen pulled the phone out of the wall and went into their bedroom, prosecutor Karen Pritchard said. When the man confronted Whalen, the accused assaulted him, pulling off his shirt and scratching his arm.Whalen stole $60 from the woman's change purse.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property, an offence that occurred on Jan. 15, 2020 in the municipality of Huron Shores.
