The CRD says it has reached an agreement to buy $33.3 million-worth of land beside the Sooke Lake Reservoir.
The Capital Regional District says it has reached an agreement to buy $33.3 million worth of land beside the Sooke Lake Reservoir, though community approval is still ultimately required.
“The CRD has identified these lands as an acquisition priority for many years, but they only recently became available,” said CRD board chair Cliff McNeil-Smith in a release Tuesday. AAPs are a way for local governments to seek approval for major projects. Through an AAP, a proposed project is approved unless at least 10 per cent of electors file opposition to it., the CRD says that even if the AAP for the land purchase were to fail, other options to approve the purchase would still be available to the regional district, like holding a referendum.Next steps
The Sooke Lake Reservoir is one of three main watersheds that supply Greater Victoria’s drinking water, with the others being the Goldstream and Leech watersheds.
