The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is launching a unified Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to seek funding for four potential projects, including a new artificial turf field. This streamlined approach aims to save taxpayer dollars and efficiently obtain public approval. Residents can submit opposition to the projects between January 15th and February 18th.

AAPs are a statutory process that local governments can use to seek approval for major projects. Sometimes known as “counter-petitions,” AAP proposals move forward unless 10 per cent or more of local electors submit opposition to the proposal.Artificial Turf Field Loan Authorization While the AAPs are all being launched at once, they will be voted on individually.

“This Unified AAP represents four initiatives designed to provide a more efficient and effective method of obtaining public approval with residents in the Comox Valley,” said CVRD CAO James Warren. The CVRD says it will have Electoral Response Forms available online and at the CVRD office at 770 Harmston Ave. in Courtenay starting Jan. 7 for people who want to submit opposition to the projects.
