Infrastructure projects in Victoria may have some feeling construction fatigue, but officials say local businesses are still open.

Ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects in Victoria may have some feeling construction fatigue, but city staff and the Downtown Victoria Business Association are reminding people that local businesses are still open.

“There’s a lot of infrastructure that people can’t see. That has to be maintained in a good state of repair just to keep status quo,” said Ross Kenny, assistant director of transportation at the City of Victoria.Several sections of Blanshard Street have undergone infrastructure upgrades for more than a year, with its newest tear-up happening to accommodate protected bike lanes, new traffic signals, repaving the road, and upgrading accessibility.

The city has also rolled out new signage in the areas that will have new projects, indicating that businesses are still open. However, aside from the extra signage and letting owners know ahead of time that a project will begin, there’s not much recourse owners can take.
