No P.E.I. MP has ever been Speaker

This includes Conservative MP Chris D'Entremont, Liberal MPs Alexandra Mendès and Greg Fergus and NDP MP Carol Hughes. Casey said most MP's from the Opposition parties will likely select a candidate from their own party as their first choice. He said he would hope to convince as many as possible to select him as their second or third choice.
Rota faced calls for his resignation from Conservative, Bloc, NDP and Liberal Members of Parliament after he gave recognition to a Ukrainian veteran of a WWII division that fought for Nazi Germany. Following a speech before Parliament by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Rota introduced the 98-year old man, Yaroslav Hunka, as a Ukrainian-Canadian veteran from WWII"who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians.
