Driven by personal motivations and a shared vision, a volunteer board of directors, including Mathew Knowles, father of Beyonce, are tackling societal issues like poverty, addiction, and mental health through the Change Space Foundation.

The Change Space Foundation , a new Vancouver-based organization dedicated to tackling pressing societal issues, has assembled a dedicated board of directors, many of whom are volunteers, driven by deeply personal motivations. Joseph Bell, a director on the board and Victoria resident, attributes his involvement to the tragic suicides of his brother and best friend. Mathew Knowles , father of superstar Beyonce and founder of Music World Entertainment, serves as the board chair.

Knowles, who developed and overcame breast cancer, was profoundly transformed by the experience and is passionate about giving back. He met Change Space Foundation founder Michelle Falcone seven years ago at an event, forging a connection that led to his involvement in this ambitious endeavor. Change Space Foundation aims to address North American community problems, primarily poverty, addiction, and mental health, by facilitating connections and securing funding for organizations with impactful ideas. The organization's association with star power presents a distinct advantage in making a real difference. 'We're in this unique position of having the star power and the reach that we want to leverage to really help, because impacting all of us,' said Bell. Falcone, described by Bell as an 'incredible, amazing woman,' is a certified integrative life coach with experience working with artists in the music industry. Bell, who works in the film industry as a publicist for Michael Levine's Boundless Media, which has represented 58 Academy Award winners, has utilized his connections to engage celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Chad Kreuger from Nickelback in discussions about Change Space Foundation's work. 'Relationships make the whole world go round,' Bell emphasized.By creating connections and fundraising, Change Space empowers nonprofits to dedicate more time and resources to their vital missions. The foundation's inaugural event, Lean On Me: The Effects of Loneliness and Isolation on Mental Health Forum, will take place on January 23rd on Zoom. This free forum will feature a panel of experts and advocates exploring the topics of loneliness, isolation, and mental health while introducing attendees to Falcone, Knowles, and the board. There are also plans for some special surprises. The first annual star-studded fundraising Empower Change Together Gala/Silent Auction for Mental Health is scheduled for April 12th at the Pipe Shop in North Vancouver. This gala will present the inaugural Change Space Humanitarian Award to distinguished honorees: Dr. Mathew Knowles, platinum-selling artist Bif Naked, Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, president of UBC, and Guy Felicella, a mental health and recovery advocate. The event will primarily raise funds for a collaborative project between Vancouver's Empower Health and Together We Can, supporting individuals in need of mental health and addiction support. While the first gala focuses on Vancouver, Bell stated that Change Space aims to support organizations in Victoria and across Canada, with potential expansion into the U.S. due to the universality of these issues. Bell highlighted the fentanyl crisis, a widespread problem affecting many communities, emphasizing the need for collective action. 'There's no way that you don't know someone that knows someone that's affected. And if we don't come together as a society, there's just no way we're going to impact it.' Knowles's engagement with Change Space was fueled by his observation of the crisis during a visit to Vancouver. He was deeply moved by the situation and committed to making a difference. Addiction, the economy, homelessness, and mental health are interconnected challenges that Change Space is actively addressing through strategic partnerships and impactful initiatives. The volunteer board is diligently working behind the scenes to establish connections and prepare for future success. Their efforts are bridging the gap between the public and businesses seeking to contribute to organizations in need. 'We're doing this on top of what we do and giving it 110 per cent,' Bell expressed. 'This is an opportunity for us to do something that's really impactful that might be more difficult for other organizations to do.
