Some of the crew members of the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Jean Goodwill pose aboard the vessel shortly before a dedication to service ceremony at the Port of Sydney on Thursday. The icebreaker is named after the late Jean Cuthand Goodwill, who was one of the first Indigenous women in Canada to become a registered nurse and a founding member of the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada. Her nephew Wayne Goodwill travelled from the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation in Saskatchewan to give traditional opening and closing prayers in the Dakota language.

The vessel will travel to the Canadian Coast Guard College in Westmount today where Mike Kelloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Mario Pelletier, Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard, will unveil an innovative engine training system for students and personnel.
