A mechanical difficulty with the main engine on the Queen of New Westminster has led to cancellations on the Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen route, BC Ferries says.

Overall seven sailings on the Queen of New Westminster have been cancelled, but the company says it is using another vessel to operate two of the evening sailings, resulting in five cancellations overall.

The 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 4 p.m. leaving Swartz Bay and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen have been cancelled. The 6 p.m. leaving Tsawwassen and 8 p.m. leaving Swartz Bay were supposed to be serviced by the Queen of New Westminster, but will instead use another vessel for the sailings.

This cancellation comes after BC Ferries wrapped up one of its busiest weekends of the year, as many were heading out for last-minute travel before school starts, or post-secondary students were moving to or from the Island to prepare for the school year.This is the second time this year the Queen of New Westminster had to be cancelled due to a mechanical difficulty.
