Kingsley Ogieva, a truck driver from Airdrie, Alberta, received recognition as a 'Highway Angel' after he bravely helped a driver trapped in a rolled-over tractor-trailer. His quick thinking and actions, along with the support of other motorists, ensured the safe rescue of both drivers.

Kingsley Ogieva, a truck driver based in Airdrie, Alberta , was recently named a ' Highway Angel ' by the Truckload Carriers Association for his heroic actions after coming across a serious accident on Highway 2 near Bowden. Early on November 27th, Ogieva encountered a rolled-over tractor-trailer blocking the southbound lane. He immediately pulled over and rushed to help the trapped driver.

Upon reaching the overturned vehicle, Ogieva observed the driver struggling to free himself from the damaged cab by kicking out the windshield. With the assistance of another trucker who had also stopped, Ogieva began working to remove the windshield and help the trapped driver. Ogieva recounted the incident to CBC News, stating, 'We just heard a big bang, and before I knew what was happening, I was on the floor.' He continued, 'I went to help, now I'm the one looking for help.'As Ogieva and the other bystanders worked to free the driver, they waited for emergency services to arrive. During this time, numerous motorists stopped to offer assistance, searching for tools to pry open the wreckage. Ogieva, while trapped, noticed diesel fuel leaking onto the road and took charge of the situation by warning others to stay clear of the fumes. Ogieva shared that a woman held his hand and offered to pray for him, which helped him to remain calm amidst the fear and cold. After approximately 40 minutes, emergency crews arrived and lifted the wreckage, allowing both Ogieva and the driver to be extracted. Ogieva was transported to the Red Deer Regional Hospital for surgery on soft tissue damage and has since made a full recovery. Ogieva expressed his hope that his actions would inspire others to assist in times of need, emphasizing the importance of helping those in distress as a fundamental aspect of humanity.

Legal Aid Funding Changes Could Hurt Vulnerable Albertans, Advocates WarnLegal Aid Funding Changes Could Hurt Vulnerable Albertans, Advocates WarnProposed changes to the Alberta Law Foundation's mandatory contribution rate to Legal Aid Alberta are raising concerns that access to justice for vulnerable and low-income Albertans will be limited. The foundation generates revenue from interest earned on lawyers' pooled trust accounts and distributes it to non-profits, including Legal Aid Alberta and smaller clinics. Doubling the contribution to Legal Aid Alberta would reduce funding for smaller organizations and make Legal Aid Alberta's funding less stable.
