Kingsley Ogieva, a truck driver from Airdrie, Alberta, is hailed a 'Highway Angel' after assisting a trapped driver following a tractor-trailer accident on Highway 2.
Kingsley Ogieva, a truck driver from Airdrie, Alberta , has been honored as a ' Highway Angel ' by the Truckload Carriers Association for his heroic actions in assisting a trapped driver after a tractor-trailer accident. On November 27th, Ogieva was driving along Highway 2 when he encountered a rolled-over trailer blocking the southbound lane near Bowden. Without hesitation, he pulled over, rushed to the scene, and found the driver struggling to free himself from the damaged cab.
Ogieva and another trucker who had also stopped worked together to try and remove the windshield. Meanwhile, Ogieva also took charge of the situation, warning other motorists about the spilled diesel fuel and ensuring they kept a safe distance. He managed to calm his own fears by talking with a woman who offered to pray for him. After approximately 40 minutes, emergency services arrived, lifted the wreckage, and extricated both drivers. Ogieva was transported to the Red Deer Regional Hospital for surgery on soft tissue damage but has since made a full recovery. The 'Highway Angel' program, founded by the Truckload Carriers Association in 1997, recognizes professional truck drivers who demonstrate extraordinary acts of kindness, courtesy, and courage on the job. Ogieva's selfless actions and quick thinking exemplify the true spirit of this program
