Kingsley Ogieva, an Airdrie-based truck driver, received recognition as a 'Highway Angel' for his quick thinking and bravery in assisting a driver trapped after a tractor-trailer accident on Highway 2 in Alberta.

Kingsley Ogieva, a truck driver based in Airdrie, Alberta , has been named a ' Highway Angel ' by the Truckload Carriers Association for his heroic actions in assisting a driver trapped in a rolled-over tractor-trailer. On November 27th, Ogieva was driving along Highway 2 near Bowden when he encountered a southbound lane partially blocked. As he passed the trailer, he noticed the driver was stuck inside the damaged cab, attempting to free himself by kicking out the windshield.

Without hesitation, Ogieva pulled over, rushed to the scene, and began helping the trapped driver along with another trucker who also stopped. Together, they tried to remove the windshield, while Ogieva continuously called for help. Soon, more motorists arrived, offering assistance and trying to pry the driver out. Ogieva, still trapped, noticed diesel fuel leaking onto the road and quickly took charge of the situation, warning people to stay clear of the fumes and potential fire hazard. A woman offered to pray for him, which greatly helped him calm down during the stressful ordeal. After approximately 40 minutes, emergency services arrived, lifted the wreckage, and freed both Ogieva and the driver. Ogieva was transported to the Red Deer Regional Hospital for surgery on soft tissue damage and has since made a full recovery. The Highway Angels program, established by the Truckload Carriers Association in 1997, recognizes professional truck drivers for their extraordinary kindness, courtesy, and courage on the job. This program highlights the importance of helping those in need, especially during emergencies on the road
