She’s a nurse and chair of Wellness Within, a reproductive rights group. In those two roles she sees first-hand evidence that gender-based violence is an epidemic.
She’s lost confidence in the minister’s ability to continue in his post. She said he must resign or be removed. Other groups that work with victims of gender-based violence responded to the justice minister’s comments. Adsum House for Women and Children released a statement saying that it is shocked and angered by the minister’s “flippant remarks.”
Kristina Fifield and Liz LeClair, Members of Can't Buy My Silence, released a joint statement calling the minister’s comments extremely harmful and deeply damaging, sowing further distrust between victims and the government. "The government has continued to outright ignore the cries of advocates and activists in Nova Scotia around this issue," said the statement.
