Anna Ho, a 23-year-old lifelong Vancouver resident, documents her journey on TikTok, garnering hundreds of thousands of views. The series begins with Ho stating, 'So I live in Vancouver , and I have no friends.
' Ho explains that after graduating high school and not pursuing further education, she found it difficult to meet people in a city known for its aloofness. Ho's quest for connection takes her to various events, from electronic music festivals to solo painting classes, even exploring the friendship-finding app Bumble BFF. She acknowledges the draining and tiring nature of meeting new people, comparing it to a job interview or a date. Investing both time and money, Ho estimates the activities have already cost her hundreds of dollars. She aims to participate in at least one activity per week.Experts on friendship and loneliness emphasize the importance of stepping outside one's comfort zone, noting that Vancouver's challenges in forming friendships are mirrored in Seattle, a city with a well-known term for its loneliness problem: the 'Seattle Freeze.'
