SAO PAULO - Canadian asset manager Brookfield is exiting the shopping mall sector in Brazil to concentrate its local real estate holdings in offices, apartment buildings and logistics, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Brookfield has hired investment banks Bradesco BBI and BTG Pactual to conduct the sales. The planned sales were first reported by business news website Brazil Journal.Brookfield, with approximately $1 trillion in assets in over 30 countries, has its origins in a utility company founded in 1899 in São Paulo.

The firm has invested since the 1980s in Brazilian malls, which have rebounded quickly from pandemic-era restrictions.
