'You're trying to win the Stanley Cup,' Dubas says in wake of Maple Leafs trade for O'Reilly, Acciari via koshtorontosun
“When you’re , your goal has to be that you’re trying to win, and if you’re trying to win, you’re trying to win the Stanley Cup,” Dubas said. “We’re trying to win. That’s the message. Anything short of that, I think we’ll all be disappointed.”
“This may be a blessing that lets him recharge, get 100% healthy for the stretch,” Dubas said. “With Ilya playing the way he has, with Joe Woll playing the way that he has with the Marlies and Erik Kallgren as well, those guys have earned the right to roll. Tavares wasn’t overly comfortable making a comparison, but brought up Boston Bruins all-around whiz Patrice Bergeron in describing what O’Reilly does on each shift.
“Acciari is a player we’ve talked about internally for a long time. Right-handed centreman who can play wing, high-end competitor, physical, but can also chip in and score with strong finish around the net and off the rush. We felt accomplished what we’re looking to do up front.” The Leafs this year have a conditional third-round pick, as well as a pick in the fifth and sixth round. They have their first-round pick in 2024, but nothing again until the fourth round. As for the departure of forwards Mikhail Abramov and Adam Gaudette, neither loss will influence the Leafs’ chances of winning.
