It’s a situation her son, Charlie Senack, calls his worst nightmare. He is seeking answers about why there weren’t better precautions in place at the hospital to prevent Glenda from becoming infected, especially since she is immune-compromised as a result of cancer treatments. He and his family are calling for a return to stricter, and clearer, mask mandates in hospitals and across Ontario to help protect vulnerable people like his mother as another wave of COVID-19 begins to build.

Despite those policies, Senack said there have been several unmasked visitors in his mother’s room, including one who ignored signs and her warning that she had COVID and visitors were required to wear masks and gowns. Senack said the messages about masking at the hospital were sometimes confusing. Moving her abruptly, at midnight, from a room with one other patient to a four-bed ward with limited space between the bedsKeeping one of her roommates in the room for several hours after testing positive before they were moved into isolation
