Holly Ogden was walking along Townsite Road about 5:30 p.m with her husband and daughter when a man grabbed her purse from behind with enough force to spin her around and knock her down.

A 67-year-old woman is urging others to keep their belongings close after she was injured in a recent purse-snatching in Nanaimo.

Ogden, who was in town for a concert by American trumpeter Herb Alpert at the Port Theatre, said she has never had her purse snatched before, although she was aware that it has happened in the city. “We heard Nanaimo was bad, but not where we were walking.” She also lost her identification and keys in the theft, and said it’s been “a hassle” to replace everything.
