SANDY, Utah — A woman in a wheelchair was killed Monday afternoon after being hit by a Utah Transit Authority TRAX train in Sandy.Officials report the woman was 65 years old and in an electric wheelchair waiting to cross the tracks.
The woman saw the southbound train pass and thought she was clear to go but was hit by the northbound train while crossing.Witnesses and nearby first responders tried to help the woman but officials report she died of her injuries at the scene. Further identifying information about the woman was not made available as family members are notified of the death.
For UTA passengers traveling in the area, expect a 10-15 minute delay on the blue line surrounding Sandy and be prepared to get off the train as a bus bridge is in place.
