A wildfire in El Paso County has forced evacuation orders south of Colorado Springs.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has order evacuations in the area of Donner View Pass on the east, Fort Carson on the west, High Stakes View on the south.The Sweetwater fire has burned about 75 acres, the sheriff’s office said, and there is no containment. The Hanover Fire Department is fighting the fire.
The area where the fire is burning is under a red flag warning for critical fire weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service. Afternoon temperatures are in the mid-70s in the area with low humidity and winds gusting up to 30 mph. The weather service posting, which runs through 7 p.m. Saturday, warns about “extreme fire behavior.”
